All of the data in this project is from the Smithsonian Collection, with items displayed here from both the Cooper-Hewitt and the National Museum of American History. The data displayed is refined from a larger original search for cutlery items to just items containing images and then further filtered for the dot plot to show only items with a known year, image, and type.
The categories of material and type are taken from the title and description data. The mapping below is more robust than is necessary in this display, as it was original applied to a larger set of the 3,273 items in the original search.
